We at the DSHS/WIC have a great DVD with a Rita survivor who was stuck in the hospital, wasn't nursing, and ran out of water/formula. Baby would have starved to death if she had not begun to breastfeed. She called 211 and was put in touch with Moms' Place/LC. I even have posters in my office that talk about infant feeding in disasters that encourage mom to BF -- her only option when water/formula aren't available. I always tell my clients, esp. in hurricane season, that we never know when a natural dissaster is going to hit us, and we need to be prepared. Think about what you would do if you couldn't get formula. How would you feed your baby???
Myths are hard to overcome, and so is stupidity! I've got an attitude today! Look out! (PMS cure anyone?) haha Have a blessed day,Merideth M. Buell, BFPCDSHS [log in to unmask]
