Karleen asked:
"Who is manning the helpline?? I haven't been able to find that out in the
articles."
Karleen, volunteers from the Breastfeeding Network, and volunteers from the
Association of Breastfeeding Mothers -- two of the four mother support
organisations here in the UK (the others are La Leche League GB and The
National Childbirth Trust) are answering the calls.
So, for example, I am on rota tomorrow morning.
Here is the information on the BfN website:
http://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/national-breastfeeding-helpline
I can't see anything on the ABM website yet, here is their web address:
http://abm.me.uk/website/index.htm
the Department of Health info explains it:
http://www.gnn.gov.uk/environment/fullDetail.asp?ReleaseID=352806&NewsAreaID
=2&NavigatedFromDepartment=False
see point 4 at the bottom of the page.
I also thought this was interesting:
"The Breastfeeding Network, one of the two organisations who will make up
the helpline, received around 20,000 calls last year the other organisation
the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers received around more than 8,000
calls. The National Breastfeeding Helpline will be able to receive call
volumes of several times that number. It is estimated that almost 10 per
cent of the mothers giving birth in England call, showing not only the need
but that women are motivated to seek assistance."
Both BfN and ABM also have their own organisation helplines, too. (As do
the other two vol orgs)
Apparantly today most of the calls were from journalists and others just
checking that it really is up and live (and it is!!). Its going to be
interesting to see how it develops.
