Hi,
I have been trading emails and phone messages with this mom since my
original post. Actually, the one who pushed off her concerns was her doctor,
so she then brought them to me. I posted to the list because I am very new
at this (10 years nursing mother's counselor but only just took the exam this
past July) and I wanted to make sure I had some information and guidance
that was given by those of you who have much more experience and expertise
than I do. So far, she has reported that her milk supply seems to be
going "up", with diligent pumping and frequent feeding--thank goodness she is
also tandem nursing her 2-year-old son--but her baby has been having
difficulty stooling and is passing a lot of foul-smelling gas, which she
attributed to the formula her baby had been getting. The last poo baby had
was "dark orange and runny" and achieved with the assistance of a glycerine
suppository. The baby has been wetting "a ton" per mom. I urged her to call
her pediatrician if her baby had not stooled in 24 hours (when we spoke on
Friday night), and last left her a message and email at 11 am today. I am
awaiting her report of what has transpired. I am so grateful for all the interest
my post has generated, as any input is greatly valued by my friend (and
me!). She knows something isn't right, and doesn't feel like anyone is really
listening--until now. Thanks to you all!!
