Jaye and all,
Yeah this is always frustrating for moms. Do you think it is an aversion or
frustration thing, where baby might be gentled out of it by alternative
feeding in nursing position, or is it more of a neuromuscular/physiological thing,
where the position is just painful or difficult to coordinate in no matter
how the baby feeds? A baby with neck/shoulder girdle dysfunction might be
experiencing more of a challenge in a sidelying position/nursing position vs
sitting up with neck/shoulder girdle well-supported. Some of them, whether not
able to latch and feed well at breast or losing milk if
bottlefeeding/alternative feeding sidelying, just have trouble on their sides. Will baby attempt to
latch with less problem if mom is flat on her back or even leaning way back
so baby is more towards belly than true sidelying and therefore more
inherently stable? Sometimes there are just so many challenges a dyad is dealing with,
it's hard to tease them all out!
Peace,
Judy
