My 2 cents here. When the subject of nursing discreetly in public comes up, I
always make these 2 points. 1. if you are out in public and see something that
disturbs you, such as teenagers kissing and writhing around, or a gay couple
holding hands, do you rush up to them to scold them? Do you ask
the "authorities" to remove them? No--you turn away! Why? because you may
be "violating their civil rights". So, when you see a nursing mother--mind your
own business! I usually get nods out of even the most die-hard "that's
disgusting, she should use a bottle" folks. 2. As far as mom covering up with a
shawl or blanket. Why not get a red one with a big target that looks like a
boob? I mean, for heaven's sake, run up an advertisement! We can get a peek
at someones buttcrack and belly bulge in low jeans, or when the plumber
comes to our house, but it is "obscene" to perhaps watch a baby's mouth go
near his mommy's boobie. Puhleese!
For the record--I was outed on Fan-O-Vision at Camden Yards nursing my 2-
month-old daughter. I still wasn't very proficient at latching her, and she was
a wiggler. I also had worn an outfit that was not very accessible. But it was
cute... Quite an adventure, and I never looked at nursing in public the same
way again.
If you see a mom NIPping today--give her a smile!
Kindly,
Leslie
