You will have to do some medline research on this one to find the 
references, but several studies have found that kids who are breastfed 
continue to have normal immunity (as compared to artificially fed ones 
who have poorer immunity and greater rates of illness) even after 
weaning. Ear infections are one illness that has been studied. Perhaps 
the librarian at your local hospital (if your WIC agency is affiliated 
with a hospital) or the university you graduated from can help. My alma 
mater provides alumni library privileges, which I've made good use of in 
the past 2 years.
