Recently I've noticed some posts which mention having the mother use "a (brand) hospital grade breast pump". Sorry? Aren't we supposed, on Lactnet, to avoid promoting brands? Mentioning a brand because of a particular feature that causes or corrects a common pumping problem is relevant, but citing the brand gratuitously is not. The whole point of the above sentence is that the pump used was *hospital grade*. That it was "X" or "Y" brand is irrelevant. That seems to me to be gratuitous promotion, even though innocently done. I'm sure the company would be very happy to have professionals continue to throw its name into any mention of hospital grade breast pumps - but in my opinion we should question whether this is appropriate to do.
