happen. For one thing, the "education" about nutrition in public schools has
been driven by industry interests, in particular the cow milk industry. How
does one teach young children that they must "drink their milk" and
conversely teach them that cow milk is not the appropriate food for human infants? At
what point does the infant cross the line into the world of being a cow?? One
cannot teach truth based upon a lie. Parents must sign a release in schools
for their children NOT to receive cow milk at lunch!. Apparently, it is so
risky NOT to feed children cow milk, that a signed waiver is required.
Jennifer,
Almost weekly I talk about starting solids, whole milk etc in support group.
I ALWAYS mention how my girls haven't drank milk since weaning. I happen
to love it, but they don't so they don't drink it. Everyone worries about
calcium. Sometimes I get a soapbox about Dairy and big monies and
marketing/lobbying, but usually state we are the only species who drinks anothers milk
after weaning. Calcium comes in lots of places...blah...blah..blah. Lots of
these moms have been coming every week for months, so they see I'm not some
crazy breastfeeding fanatic:) they know me as a friend and another mom (and bf
expert) so when I talk about co-sleeping, my opinion on vaccines, natural
birthing, no milk whatever, they hear it for real and not some crazy talking. I
am making some great inroads to NORMAL for these moms and learning to trust
their instincts in spite of what their Peds/Mom/Friends are telling them!
