Hi Lisa-

This is not an evidence-based answer-just my own experience. I pumped for months with Medela Pump in Style after I went back to work. Several months later I happened to remove the little white pump valves and found mold under them! I never realized I needed to wash those (don't ask why it never occured to me!) My daughter Chloe is now 6 years old and it never appeared to cause any harm. I have to agree with Laurie-I think it is similar to us getting into a bit of moldy bread or cheese. I think as long as the baby is immunocompetent, I can't imagine it being a problem. However, this is just my opinion! (of course, if someone had a penicillin or mold allergy could this trigger some kind of anaphylaxsis? My thoughts is that this would be highly unlikely, but maybe possible.)

Oh-I have to add off the subject of mold-I just learned yesterday that I was the highest scorer for 1st time examinees on the 2007 IBCLC exam. Sorry-I'm just a LITTLE BIT EXCITED!
