Replying to Lisa:

At our hospital, we use bar coded labels (baby's labels) that NICU obtains and
gives to mom. She labels each container and brings to NICU. We use a bar
coding scanner for medications and we scan the breastmilk container as well
to assure correct milk for each baby. When the baby labels are not "up from
pharmacy yet" then mom labels with her chart labels and the nurses then have
to check with 2 nurses and make a notation in the scanning system. Hope
that helps.

Subject: Labeling of milk for NICU babies/Creamatocrit

I have two questions.
* How do you have milk labeled for babies in the NICU when mom is inpatient
on post partum floor? Is it labeled under the mother or the baby? If it is
labeled under the baby, how does the mother get those labels (where and
who gives them to her) and how is the information verified with her that is
indeed her baby? If it is labeled under the mother is it relabeled when it comes
to the NICU? If so by who?
*We just received a Creamatocrit Plus for use in our NICU. I'm looking for input
from those of you already using this equipment. How is it used in the NICU,
who uses it, what type of protocols do you have? I am well aware of the Rush
program and how it is used there but I'm looking for information from other
sources. Thank you in advance for sharing this information.
