One of my co-workers was in a discussion with a mom who complained
about all the formula sent to her doorstep. She pointed out that this
is a violation of a person's choice. No one goes to a formula-feeding
mom and says, "after you get through with that bottle, why don't you put
your baby to breast so he can have a little. And here's some free
breast pads and how about a breast pump just in case." Wouldn't you be
written up as invalidating a person's choice? Wouldn't the
formula-feeding mom complain? We DO educate if the mother is willing or
interested in changing her mind, but we don't routinely force her to
defend her choice of feeding, nor do we sneak the baby on the breast
while she's sleeping, instead of waking her up to give a bottle!
