Have just finished watching several different instructional
videos/animations. Having dealt with many, many babies lately in the
outpatient clinic with tongue-ties (divided or not yet divided or not
properly divided) jaw asymmetry, and other musculoskeletal issues, I
notice that many of these pictures show the baby with an arched back.
Has anyone else noticed that "tucking the tail" getting the baby's body
properly flexed with back slightly rounded, "putting the elbows on the
table" having the baby's shoulders properly flexed and forward, "and
putting the baby in the kitchen so he can smell the coffee" getting the
baby's nose to the nipple tip, helps the whole of latch on? I am an
ex-tongue-tie baby (had mine clipped right after birth. Although I was
breastfed at least 6 months (my mom has 12 children and can't recall all
the details :-)) I was put in speech therapy at school, and have noticed
that if I overextend my neck, pull my chin back, arch my back more, I
have more difficulty in speaking clearly and using my tongue properly.
I think it's important for moms to realize that there is no absolutely
only one right way to do latch on. What do you think?
