Respectfully, I think galactosemia is an inability to metabolize galactose,
which is itself a metabolite of lactose. The baby's ability is fully
metabolize lactose is still at issue - the baby breaks the lactose in
glucose and galactose, but then the inborn error of metabolism prevents the
baby from metabolizing the galactose due to a missing enzyme. As Dr Leeper
points out, maternal consumption of dairy would not affect the lactose
levels in her milk.
