Human milk is not sterile. Formula powder is not sterile. With both, it is
only certain bugs (like enterobacter sakazakii) that causes infection in
susceptible hosts. Extremely preterm or otherwise immunologically compromised
infants are such hosts, not preterm infants close to discharge.
