"Mothering Your Nursing Toddler" illuminated my path as a mom, so we used
the code word "snuggle" - which became "nuh-nuhs" for all three kids (whose
nursing time overlapped!). It was interesting to me last year when that
woman who could decipher all baby cries (don't go there) noted that babies
who want to nurse say "nuh---nuh---nuh---" in their cry!
I remember watching a March of Dimes video that I was going to use for
teaching a class at a bank. A neonatologist was holding an opiate-addicted
newborn who was inconsolable. My then-3-year old son was very agitated and
stood right in front of me, looked me in the eye and loudly and sternly
said, WHY DOESN"T THAT MOMMY GIVE THAT BABY NUH-NUHS!!
He's now working on saving the environment in other ways.
