Supplementation in the hospital affects milk supply in a bigger way than this study shows. It teaches that the proper technique for inadequate supply is to supplement with formula - and teaches it in the most effective way, hands-on. This is the routine 'technique' I see mothers using all the time, rather than the effective one - having baby nurse more often - and they learn it from the hospital nurses.
