Re: "I was weaned from the breast to 2% cow's milk at appx 6 months in 1975 -does that count? ;-)"
In 1971 my sister's doctor ordered her to wean her fully breastfed 3 mo old daughter to skim milk overnight because she was "too fat". To this day, my sister grieves the loss of breastfeeding and worries about possible damage to her child.
(We were both fed the Carnation and Karo "formula" in the late 40's. They also put rice cereal in the bottles. Our maternal grandfather was a well known obstetrician; our mother returned to her hometown to have her babies and stayed upstairs in her parents' home for a month after each delivery with a baby nurse to care for the baby. She breastfed in the hospital throughout her two week stay with each of us, but had to stop due to very sore nipples and "no milk." I have struggled with overweight all my life and am sure it has at least something to do with Carnation and Karo.)
