Dear friends,
Ofcourse moms choices are hers alone and for us to respect. And I actually do mention pumping and bottling as an option between breastfeeding and artificial feeding. But meeting mom's goals is not my first job. I see myself as hired by baby. For me, breastfeeding and lactation consulting is about a baby within a dyad. So baby's wellbeing and baby's right come first and mom's needs and goals are factors I'll have to include in my careplan for baby.
I do know that lactation specialists are not thinking alike about the question of breastfeeding/lactation being a women's issue or a child's issue. I'd like to hear from more lactnetters what their view in this issue is.
Met vriendelijke groet,
Gonneke van Veldhuizen, IBCLC
