a search for "alternatives to mammograms" shows lots of interesting
info on
thermograph, MRI, blood test....

Has anyone tried any of these? MRIs are quite expensive, and my guess
is my wonderful American health insurer would not pay for it since
routine mammograms are covered and cheaper. I know of no blood test
that would check for breast cancer per se. Thermograms are possible but
not routinely available--I would have to travel about 8 hrs round trip
to the nearest center I have identified. I keep thinking that
ultrasounds sound promising, but I haven't found anyone who has had one
as a breast cancer screening. Of course, if you advertised ultrasounds
for breast cancer screening and then someone who had received one
subsequently was diagnosed with breast cancer, in America, you would
promptly be sued for negligence or possibly malpractice because
ultrasounds have not been formally sanctioned as a breast cancer
screening technique by the FDA or whatever government agency sanctions
such things.

Is there anybody out there who routinely does one of these alternatives?
Am I just really crazy here? (No, wait, don't answer that part.)
