The bright red blood is hers, if she were having blood in the stool from
digesting yours, it would be brownish.
Rapid intestinal transport from lactose overload in rat pups depletes
the intestinal mucosa of vitamin E, making the mucosa friable (apt to
break down). I've been encouraging moms in my practice with
hyperlactation and babies with blood in the stools that as they work on
block feeding and allergen elimination, to try taking some vitamin E as
well, hoping more will pass into the milk and replenish the baby. It
does seem to help.
We suspect that the gut friability results in allergic sensitization.
There's no research evidence yet, but dairy/soy elimination seems to
help when a baby has "breastfeeding colitis".
Good luck with your investigations and in healing your baby's gut.
Please keep us posted on the results of the RAST.
