What mom described about sandpaper tongue I have heard before and seems to
be caused by an in and out motion of tongue that is restricted by tongue tie.
I think it's important to keep in mind that even minor tongue tie,
especially posterior ones, can be causing nipple damage since baby is using tongue
incorrectly to compensate for inability to move it down and out and remain there
throughout a breastfeed. Sometimes, the tongue is able to remain over lower
gumline but posterior tongue bunching occurs which I've seen and had moms
describe as the tongue rubbing like sandpaper.
