Thanks for all responses so far about sns use, and using the tubing with a
syringe.
Have done this as well, but what I now want to know : are you sending moms
home to supplement this way.
Short term use is easy to use the tubing and syringe method, what about
longer use at home?
If you can provide a long #5Fr tubing and bottle setup, or the tubing with a
syringe, do you have moms using these
at home? What is your experience re how long this method was used, and with
what outcome.
I find mothers balk at paying the price for a full size unit SNS or Lactaid.
Often I do not know how long the supplementation
would be required. If it is an adoptive mom or even a breast hypoplasia
situation, it seems more appropriate to justify
the expense for long term supplementation. However, I am working with a lot
of premies who are not transferring milk
well. I know that the supplementer may not work for them if their suck is
weak or latch is poor, but some do ok if they have
a flow going.
What do ya'll think?
