Kristi: I am reading Lactnet as I open my mail this morning. And lo and
behold, I received a book from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
(United States) titled: "Breastfeeding and Maternal and Infant Outcomes in
Developed Countries". In it, there is a section on SIDS/breastfeeding in which
the authors state that when they reviewed literature dating back to 1997.
They found that "an overall crude risk of SIDS was twice as great for formula-
fed infants compared with breastfed infants". The purpose of this report
seems to be a review of the literature in regards to a variety of topics: otitis
media, diabetes (Type 1 &2), cardiovascular disease, NEC, SIDS etc. in
relation to breastfeeding.
A single copy of the book is available for free (or it can be downloaded for
free) from: www.ahrq.gov.
