This is my first post. Hello from a long time lurker.
We have a mom, who is breastfeeding her 3rd baby. She has had
mastitis with each experience, each bad enough to be hospitalized.
With her first, it was once and the infant was around 6 months. the
second time, it was earlier and more severe, same breast and area.
With this 3rd, the mastitis was even earlier and now she is having her
3rd bout. her doctor and her husband have "talked" her into weaning
now and she is very sad.
We did milk cultures, neg. MRSA cultures, neg. US, no abcess. The
antibiotics make her sick, but take care of the mastitis. we worked on
her oversupply, it is better. we checked the baby's MRSA status, neg.
No history of surgery or trauma to the breast.
She said her mother had to wean her brother for the same reason???
She is weaning, but wants to breastfeed at night only. And is
wondering if it is possible.
I hate it that we will never have an answer. Anybody had a similar
situation?
