with my 2nd pgc, my ob gave me a 'deadline', too. i was nursing my 8 month
old and he said if i didn't wean by 20 wks, i'd be risking the pgc. i was 8
wks pg when he told me this and i was devastated. already feeling guilty over
getting pg again so soon and possibly depriving my 1stborn of precious time as
the one and only, i was crushed to think of breaking the bond nursing gave
us. as 20 wks got closer, i r/m'ed more and more stories my great grandmother
had told me when i was young about nursing multiple children and doing it
through pgc's. she had 14 children and my grandmother had 10. i began to wonder
how women had children close together who couldn't or wouldn't use formula if
nursing was so dangerous to a pgc...and i discovered la leche league in the
process. LLL completely reassured me about how minute the risk of bfing really
is to a pgc. they saved my nursing relationship w/ my 1st son! and now i've
gone on to tandem nurse through my next 4 pregnancies and to nurse 3 after
the births. i am 16 wks pg right now and nursing my 1 and 2 year olds. i have
cramping when i nurse but i always have had this with all the pregnancies
where i've tandemed - i thought it was normal b/c i nurse them side by side and
assumed the stimulation is stonger than nursing just one. i have had very
minimal spotting as well and only in the 1st trimester of this (my 5th) pgc. not
sure if any of this helps you...i'd direct this mom to LLL to help her follow
her instincts w/ as much accurate info as possible from moms who've 'been
there and done that'.
