I received this question from one of our peer counselors, I feel that she
handled it well but I would love to hear your responses. One of he clients told
her that her friend is 36 wks gestation and since she has been leaking she is
pumping and saving her milk for when her baby gets sick in the future she will
have this colostrum stored.
The peer counselor responded by telling her that she will be bringing in a full
milk supply and robbing her newborn of the nutrients that her colostrum would
bring.
To be honest with you, I really don't have a good answer other than she is at
risk for delivering prematurely. I suppose this would also be the same as a
woman that is tandem nursing a toddler during her pregnancy and then
delivers a newborn. I look forward to your response. This is out of my
expertise and I've been around long enough to know if you have the question
once it will come back again.
Thank you for your help, I appreciate being able to learn from you. If I can get
all of the paper work done I am finally going to try to write for the IBCLC this
summer. Wish me luck!
