I would much sooner suspect the pignoli (pine nuts) that are used to 
make traditional pesto than the basil.  Pine nuts are fairly 
allergenic as nuts go.  Babies can be *sensitive* to them without 
being *allergic* (mine were).

I have never heard of basil being a no-no for breastfeeding mothers. 
I would be interested to hear if anyone finds more info on this.
