Oh my - this was a new one - I saw a mom today(now 7 days post partum)
who went to ER the night her milk came in because a "bug bite" under her arm
started swelling up "really big" and was leaking out white/yellow liquid. ER MD
said was probably staph infection in armpit and lanced across the "bite" and
put mom on ABX. No culture or any type of dx lab..... you betcha - is ancillary
breast tissue with nipple , with nice 1/4 slice across it, still swells up before
feedings and leaks. Poor father of baby, kept saying the liquid "looks just like
the baby milk" - but no one was listening. I was able to call the NP at the
clinic and she ok'd to stop abx and have mom return to her if any redness
devoloped. I about fell out of my chair during this poor families story.....
