Laurie comments on the way the posters might be reacted to where she lives
(deep south in US). I noticed that the women were quite free in the photos,
and was reminded of the picture Heather Welford Neil mentioned last week, of
a woman naked from the waist up, breastfeeding, used as an example of what
one could expect to see in the UK if there were legislation confirming a
child's right to be fed wherever it is. Not likely, but if you come to
Norway things look different.

My office opens directly onto a busy corridor, and there is a small nook in
this corridor just outside the office with a chair where mothers wait for
their appointment at our clinic. We don't have more than one person waiting
at a time, our appointment book is set up to take account of our capacity.
A lot of mothers haven't had time to think about practical clothes for BF in
the first week of their babies' lives, and it is not unusual for mothers to
simply remove all clothing from their upper bodies on entering my office,
especially now that it is fairly warm weather. Most of them don't seem to
even think about it. If they are wearing regular bras, they just undo the
clasp in the back or sometimes just pull the whole thing right off. If they
need to feed the baby while waiting to come in, they might just undress on
that side, but it is a non-issue for the vast majority of mothers. We have
another space available for women who need more privacy but it is surprising
how seldom anyone requests it, even women who follow religious proscriptions
on attire, and we have a lot of them too.

Must say there is no noticeable nipple phobia here. Quite different from
the US, where Mattel has laid the ground rules for what is acceptable: if it
ain't on Barbie's or Ken's anatomy, it can't be shown.
