Hello everyone, this is my first time posting anything on LACTNET. I look
forward to everyone’s feedback.
I exclusively breastfed my son and I am still breastfeeding him. He is going to
be three years old in October and my last menstruation was before he was
conceived. Mid January of 2008 makes four years, assuming I don't get it
before then, since I last had my period. I don't miss it, however I've been told
that the length of time its’ taken my period to return is not within the "norm."
In between I also tried to get pregnant several times and didn't. I had a
thorough check up with my GYN and explained my situation and according to
the exam, everything is fine.
I'm a breastfeeding peer counselor and neither of us, IBCLC's included, has
come across anyone that has been without a menstruation for this long. I
thought it would come back as soon as I began working but it didn't. I nurse
him mainly throughout the night (he still sleeps with me) and a couple of times
during the day (sometimes). Maybe It hasn't returned because I bf
throughout the night?
I know every woman’s body is different but hopefully someone can relate or
knows someone who is or was in the same situation as me. Thank you for
taking the time out to read this posting and responding.
Jessica Sanchez-L.
