I am a Swedish lay breastfeeding counsellor in the breastfeeding
association Amningshjälpen. I am in e-mail contact with a mother of a
1-month old. Sha has had major problems and had almost finished
breastfeeding when she got in touch with me. I suggested what we call
"hobby-breastfeeding", which she has begun with. She breastfeeds when
she and her baby feel like it, and though she wants to decrease
formula and increase milk supply, her first goal is to get peaceful
breastfeeding.
Now her milk supply has gone up, and then her initial problem is
back; her baby sucks a few times, then lets go of the nipple and
cries. This only happens with her left nipple, where she has been
pierced. Her left nipple is a bit thicker than her right one. I think
she has a problem with her let down nd the milk coming too quickly. I
hade heard of a mother who got milk through a piercing hole. Do you
think this might cause the strong letdown?
The mother hesitates to only breastfeed from one breast and that's
why she'd like to get some more opinions on this.
All the best
