I would mention the fact that direct breastfeeding allows for colonization
of antibodies specific to anything the baby has recently been exposed to.....
The fact that we actually know so little about what actually causes some of
the benefits - is it the making of the milk, the change in hormonal levels, or
the breast stimulation and hormonal responses to the baby at the breast....
I wonder if there are bonding differences as well, and would love to se some
research on that. Not sure how the data could be gathered though... it may
be difficult to find enough mothers who have done both to have a good sample
and it would be difficult to control for difference that just happen between
individual babies.
I already suggest all moms using a daycare follow Dr. Jack's advise and lick
their baby every day.

Since we've been on the topic of exclusive pumping, I was interested in
hearing what you might say to a mom who is asking if there is a diffierence
between direct nursing and just giving her own milk in a bottle. What sort of
advantages besides less work involved does the baby and mom receive by direct
breastfeeding that they would miss if the baby just received EBM in a bottle?
