I may be reading this wrong, but the pump company which took over a rival is
now intending to comply with international recommendations over a quarter of
a century old. Doesn't it seem disingenuous that they ask for guidance on
how to do this? Haven't they had 26 years (if they have been in business
that long, if not, the length of their corporate life) to find out what
their obligations are? (The Code lays down obligations to governments, to
commercial entities operating in areas covered by the Code, to individuals,
to various civil society groups.) Now they want to ask people volunteering
in the field to smarten up their corporate image (presumably) for improved
market penetration? But they couldn't invest paid staff time in this before
for some reason? If they perceive their commercial interest to be
strengthened by compliance with the Code, this is something of interest and
possible celebration, but maybe we should be cautious about sincerity in
implementation before getting too excited.
