>>>Can someone (maybe one if the good doctors) ...<<<
I don't know if I'm one of the good doctors...but, for what it's worth...
Rice cereal in a bottle is a traditional way of masking overt reflux by adding
some thickness to the feeding. Kids who have emesis and are not gaining
weight may be supplemented in this way to help them keep the food down.
The reflux episodes continue to happen, but they are "sub-clinical" (the kids
aren't spitting out their nose and mouth) so everybody worries less.
If the baby is on rice for extra calories because she is premature, there are
better and more nutritious alternatives.
Thickening breastmilk with rice cereal doesn't work. If rice is put in EBM it is
broken down by the enzymes in the milk, so it's not thicker, or it's not thicker
for long.
I don't know why this baby was recommended rice cereal, but I doubt it's
doing much good. It's not a good source of nutrition and it doesn't "cure"
reflux. I don't recommend it but I obviously don't know all the details.
