Dear Lacnet:
Recently we had a conversation with a few women resident physicians during
a breastfeeding presentation. These doctors told us that essentially they
felt "embarrased" and "hypocritical" in counseling mothers about
breastfeeding. In a sense, they felt that they could not do a good job
providing breastfeeding counseling because in their opinions, they themselves
had not been successful at breastfeeding.
We would like to know if any of you out there have had similar conversations
with resident physicians or even practicing physicians, especially female
physicians. Please email us off list to [log in to unmask] or reply
to this message.
We really appreciate any input on this topic because we are trying to study it.
