Continuing with the discussions,I often use the word 'nursing' with my
patients. particularly in the early days to emphasize that the baby is looking for
more than food (a feeding) from the breast. It answers so many questions
and insecurities parents have about why the baby wants to feed again when he
just fed, etc.
As many of you have shared, my children, and now grandchildren, chose their
own pet names. My grandson was 31/2 when his sister was born. He still
liked to nurse and shared milk with his sister for a while. He walked into my
bedroom while I was putting on my bra and said "Oh, Grandma, I didn't know you
had nurses too!" So the word is a noun and a verb in his world!
My son 'twizzled' and pinched inside my arm and my daughters liked to
tickled the outside of my arm. All of it was cute some of the time and irritating
at others---just like kids and husbands (and probably me).
