Hi everyone,
I have persmission to post. This mom is nursing a baby now 11 months old.
She has MS (multiple sclerosis) and feels she has coped as long as she can
with her pain. Her physician has prescribed 2 medications for her and told her
she should wean, but she really wants to keep breastfeeding. (Her oldest is 21
and she's sure this is her last baby.) I found information on the first drug,
medrol (methylprednisolone), a steroid. She be taking 48 mg. once a day in
the morning. The second is a pain-killer which, according to the mother,
targets specifically nerve pain. It's also an anti-seizure med. It's apparently
new and I couldn't find it on LACTMED, the LACTNET archives or my 2002
Hale. (I apologize if it's in the 2006 edition - mine was stolen out of my car a
few days ago grrr.) It's called Lyrica (pregabalin.) She'd be taking 50 mg.
2x/day. Could anyone out there tell me anything more about this drug? Are
there closely-related drugs to this one? She'll be asking her doctor about
alternatives also. Any information you have would be much appreciated.
TIA, (thanks in advance)
