Dear Friends:
Thank you Diane, for summing up my feelings so well. I couldn't
articulate what I meant.
As for Karp, I want to know that swaddling doesn't result in overheating
( a risk for crib death), or respiratory problems or hip dislocation
problems (both identified in research on swaddling as risks of the practice).
I wonder why this "method" that can be useful for certain babies (babies
with colic or prolonged crying) is marketed to all.
I wonder if this method is popular because it fits with mainstream
parenting in the US, where babies are seen in malls carried in plastic buckets and
plugged, i.e. they are to be 'shushed' and packaged, instead of carried and
nursed. I want to know that this method promotes long breastfeeding
duration........I want to see evidence of the safety of this method for mothers,
babies, and breastfeeding.
