Hello,
I have a question the answer of which is not in Drs Lawrence excellent
"Breastfeeding: a Guide for the medical profession" nore in the "Core" (or
maybe I have missed it?); it is about blood donor by lactating mothers;
knowing the fact that laws could be different from one country to another, I
wish to know the general "rules" abroad or international regulations, for a
mother who breastfeeds and wishes to be blood donor:
is there a period she cannot/should not give her blood (and why); concerning
serous prolactin and oxytocin peaks at some moments of lactating days, would
they be a condition for refusing a lactating blood donor? concerning the
rest of blood constituents there are antiinflammatories, hormones, cells
(and so on) off lactation anyway ...
could the "trouble" come from lactation hormones or precautionary principle?
(in France, no blood donation before 6 months postpartum and in some places:
total declination but we are not a good reference concerning
breastfeeding!!)
By the way: I present you all, my best wishes for 2007, may this new year
2007 bring peace on earth, respect of mothers and their babies, regarding
their wills and wishes of mothering/breastfeeding/nurturing, well-being and
their physiologies. And more respect, peace, at all stages and to all people
on earth .
Breast regards,
