Someone wise (Diana West) once told me that if I don't know the  
answer, I should ask the mother more questions and the answer will  
emerge.

I agree with Gonneke that there is a risk of overmedicalizing which  
could lead to weaning.  The answer might be that this is just in the  
range of normal and requires only watchful waiting and tincture of  
time.  If it really is a problem, that will become clear.  So I  
submit the idea of asking the mother whether she thinks this is a  
medical problem, or whether she just wants reassurance that her milk  
is good for her baby.  Whatever the answer to the green stool issue,  
breastfeeding is 99.99% likely to continue to be beneficial, so make  
sure she gets that message above all other messages.
