I just re-read the post, and thought of another issue. The IgA
information still stands. BUT if antibodies reduced the ability to fight
infection, why do we give vaccines? Doctors give preformed antibodies to
babies all the time when their mothers are Hepatitis B positive. Those
antibodies kill the hepatitis virus, without hurting the baby otherwise.
If these doctors would give these "gamma globulins", this completely
negates their argument.
Also, human milk modulates the infant's immune system in ways we don't
understand. Breastfed babies make higher levels of antibodies themselves
when they get a vaccine (in other words, formula fed infants make lower
levels of antibodies, their immune systems are underactive due to lack
of trophic [growth and development promoting] factors in human milk. I
don't see how the source of the human milk would change this.
