Thanks for your reply, Sheila.  I am, unfortunately, quite familiar 
with "Babywise" and other drivel from the likes of Ezzo.  In this situation, I did 
a home visit in which both parents were present, and they were very open 
and honest.  There were no references to Babywise or Ezzo, or schedules, or 
whatnot.  Though at lot of what this mother was doing SOUNDS like Ezzo 
teaching, I really believe it was just mistaken beliefs on her part.

After I visited with them, and helped them understand the natural dynamics, 
and gave them tons of info, the mother HAS changed much of her 
behaviours.  She is feeding on demand.

The update here is that this baby is now gaining weight, but is doing so very 
slowly.  Mom is still giving about 4oz per day of formula in order to top things 
up, but she is not using a bottle because baby was refusing the breast when 
on the bottle and mom was distraught.  So, they are doing better, but still are 
not *thriving*.
