Hi All,

As a follow-up to my earlier question of what to do about the ABM com being
at the expo I will be at in just a few weeks, I sent a note to the
coordinators asking them to reconsider having Similac there - also gave them
some basic information about why having them there was not helping
new/expectant moms (having an ABM co provide information on infant feeding
is to me the same as having a cigarette co provide information on quitting
smoking.) and provided a link to the WHO Code.hope it helps. However,
knowing humans as I do (and one of the coordinators personally) I seriously
doubt that the ABM co will be asked to not be there.

SO - I have decided to take the offensive and run with it. Well, Ok - let's
rephrase that - I will be pro-active and provide a lot of information about
the normalcy of breastfeeding (Diane W. I need to talk to you about blowing
up your What if I want to Wean paper for all to read.) along with pics and
will probably have a few of my mommies come down and hang out to nurse nurse
nurse! Also, I will have one of those trade show booth things that you can
hang all kinds of pictures on.and on it will be a LONG list of formula
RECALLS. I have been searching the internet and have been finding many
individual articles on the recalls and found one 6 page list of recalls from
as far back as 1982. However, I know there must be something better than
that - can anyone PLEASE point me in the right direction?? All help is
appreciated!

The BF rates in my area really do need to be raised. Too many moms (like my
last client) give up in the face of a challenge - convinced that formula is
easier and just as good (her baby needed some body work - really tight jaws
- poor thing couldn't open enough to nurse well at all, jaws terribly
misaligned - decided to not take baby in at all because her sister showed up
with a sick 15 mo old and because all were tired from a week with a sick kid
she decided that pumping was a pain and chose to quit. ?????? She is still
uninterested in getting help for baby - SAD!!!). One other mom in my
breastfeeding support group honestly told me that formula is so enticing -
it is easy to use - and it would make her life so much easier if she could
just feed her baby a bottle.she is having milk supply issues and baby has
had some serious weight gain issues. She is now using and SNS and
supplementing with quite a bit of formula and baby is doing much
better.Therein lies the enticement. But - luckily she is committed to BF and
will be doing the work to get that supply up and get baby off the formula.

Ah, man - what is our world coming to?? I even had to explain to my partner
this morning why I was so upset about this ABM co being at my expo and why
it was NOT a good thing to have ABM in new parent's faces - one would have
thought that would be understood by now what with listening to me rant and
rave about it all the darn time.sigh.

All help is greatly appreciated - I love this list just for this reason.

Warmly,

Jaye

Going to get a massage today.apparently MUCH needed!
