I think that such distribution could affect vulnerable populations by
suggesting that products like breastpumps are needed (ie make things more
complicated).

You ask a good question, Karleen. I had wondered this myself, but I think
if
pumps are given to mothers in the community who stats show are LESS likely
to breastfeed, then giving them a pump might be the incentive they need to
at least try. The original post did mention that the pumps would be
intended
for mother who have to deal with early separation from babies due to needing
to work.
