Laurie, I recently had a mom with cerebral palsy. Her left side was very
weak (left arm not much use) and she used a walking aid. Her baby was born
at 34 weeks and she managed very well (unaided) with double pumping until
her baby could have all his meals at the breast. In the beginning she
could latch unassisted on both sides while lying down. As baby got a
little older it was easier to experiment with other positions. Mothers that
are used to living and coping with their limitations often can figure out
many different ways of doing things once they know exactly what we are
trying to achieve.
Whether your mom's lack of sensation in her left nipple will result in
supply problems, only time will tell.
