I appreciate your thoughts Ruth. I'm not Beatriz, but I am in her shoes,
somewhat and I do think my situation would be compatible with the LLL
philosophy. I am a registered nurse and returned to work 8 weeks after each
of my babies was born. I worked only 2 nights a week. During this time, my
babies never, ever received anything but breastmilk in a bottle from their
father and that was the ONLY time they ever drank from a bottle. At all
other times, they ate straight from the breast. I was able to pump very
succussfully. I had no choice about working, but by doing it this way, we
were able to avoid daycare altogether. It was not easy and I frequently
lost break time (which is precious when you work 12-hour shifts) because my
short breaks were always spent pumping milk. I ate on the go... frequently
fruit, nuts, or granola from my pockets because I could not take another
dinner break.
Breastfeeding was of utmost importance to me and if I thought my milk supply
had been in jeopardy, I would have risked it all and quit my job before
succumbing to formula. So I do think my attitude is in line with LLL
philosophy.
I am glad to read this thread because I have considered LLL leadership and
had no idea this attitude existed in some places about working mothers. I
appreciate the heads up.
