I'm not sure how to pose my question for the archives so I am having difficulty
finding the answer. What I am wondering is, whether there is evidence that
for some women, hormonal fluctuations while breastfeeding prior to the onset
of menses, play a role in milk supply. In other words, could a woman have a
cyclical intermittent dip in supply, prior to any ovulation or menstruation? Do
some women produce enough estrogen to temporarily tamp down supply? In
the absence of all other explantions for a dip in supply, would the prudent
thing be to advise a Ca/Mag supplement? I am also wondering if what
sometimes appears to be a growth spurt could actually be a baby's response
to a temporary dip in supply. Anybody know of any studies?
Thanks,
