Dear friends,
In your opninion, or if known reference-based, how usefull is it for a mother to take iron supplements to increase iron in her milk when her 6 onth old breastfed baby is low in iron?
Baby in the case I ask for is on caffeine due to increased SIDS risk since birth. Iron absorbtion is decreased by caffein, pediatrician ordered solids for the child ans iron supplements for the mother now baby has reached 6 months and appears to be low in iron.
I think this will not help the child and he will need iron supplements himself.
Warmly thanking,
Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in stormy southern Netherlands
Met vriendelijke groet,
