Rachel, I too remember being a new nurse, and have been in situations similar 
to what you describe. Sounds like no one there believes that mothers are very 
capable of feeding their babies, including the mothers themselves. It's difficult 
to change an entire culture very quickly, so prepare yourself for the long haul. 
It has been my experience that you can do it - one couplet at a time. 
Educate yourself and keep the faith.
