Nikki,
I swaddled my babies for sleeping between feeds during the first two months
and I never found it difficult to tell when they were hungry. I would settle
them in for sleep milk drunk, swaddled and cozy and they would wake up on
their own in about 2 hours. I would usually then unwrap them, play with them,
hold them or let them explore their universe and then feed them, when they
cued. (If they slept too long, then I would unwrap them). They virtually never
got to the point that they cried to eat, people used to remark that my babies
never cried. They were fat as can be, little rolly pollies and I know in my heart
they were happy babies. As many people have said, there are so many ways
to do this, to raise happy healthy babies, why not stay open to all sorts of
ideas - this is not black and white, it is an infinity of grey, that need to be
explored for each mother/baby dyad, so that we can find what works for them.
